Serendipity or coincidence?

It may be simply a case of ‘vested interest’, but recently I have developed a heightened sensitivity to the way more and more educators appear to be embracing the possibilities of LEGO® Serious Play® (LSP) methodology. Following hot on the heels of Liam Isaac’s excellent new book on the topic, ‘Building Better Learning: using the LEGO® Serious Play® method in education’, I was very excited to read about this exciting new project from Advanced HE.

Having completed, relatively recently, an Advanced LSP Facilitator’s course, delivered by the excellent Sean Blair and the team at SERIOUSWORK, I continue to be fascinated by the role of play in developing creative conceptual thinking.  It’s heartening, therefore, to see how educational leaders at universities and colleges across the northeast of England are becoming more open to exploring new ways of engaging students in reflective practice and developing staff team approaches to curriculum design and delivery. As a PhD student, I have a keen personal research interest in the topic too and am excited by the opportunity to work with higher education staff at a northeast college using LSP to explore both the institutional, and personal, impact of retention. Playful approaches to serious issues!
